James Albert Leggett
James Albert Leggett, 88, of Halifax, died Friday, May 20, 2011 at his home.
He was born June 1, 1922 in Martin County to James Henry and Mary Lou Wobbleton Leggett. He was a very proud veteran of the United States Navy having served in WWII.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Woodruff Leggett; four sisters, Bertha Leggett, Viola Ridout, Luellia Gray and Hattie Bailey; four brothers, James Cecil, Willie, Hubert and Alton Leggett.
He is survived by three daughters, Linda Nickerson and Aubrey of Littleton, Cecilia Martin of Roanoke Rapids and Pamela Leggett of Kentucky; two sons, Benny Leggett of Durham and Alan Leggett of Kentucky; three sisters, Ruby Dale Ivey, Hazel Smith and Helen Bryant, all of Roanoke Rapids; grandchildren, Tammy Garner, Teresa Horton and husband, Mike, Tommy Edwards and his wife, Janet, Ann Lynch, Curtis Edwards, Edna Byrum, Benny C. Leggett, Jr. and Nicky Kropp and her husband, Willie; sixteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and three special friends, Maggie Pittman, Shirley Daniels and Chester Graham.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 23, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids with Rev. Timothy Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids with military rites.
The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home and other times at 410 Elkins Drive, Roanoke Rapids, NC.
The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Leggett’s service to his country.
